Frank '44 and Dorothy Rivara Establish Gift Annuity

Frank '44 and Dorothy Rivara Establish Gift Annuity

Frank Rivara is a 1944 St. Patrick Academy graduate. Frank and his wife Dorothy live in Sedona, AZ and have lived there since his retirement in 1982. As a student at St. Patrick Academy, Frank played freshman football and held a number of part-time jobs.

He and his younger brother, Victor '46 (now deceased) would commute to St. Patrick Academy at Adams and Des Plaines by streetcar from the Northwest side of the Chicago.

After graduating from the Academy, Frank served in the Army. He then attended the University of Illinois and received his degree in accounting. He worked as an accountant for several corporations before working for Cook County and the Circuit Court. Frank and Dorothy married in 1960 and recently celebrated 46 years of marriage. Now in retirement Frank enjoys golfing and working on the computer. Dorothy, a lifelong volunteer, still volunteers for a nursing home in Arizona, and a couple of years ago, she was recognized as Arizona's Volunteer of the Year for Nursing Homes.

Frank knew a charitable gift annuity would provide income for himself and his wife for life and a good portion would be tax free. He likes the idea of creating income while helping charities. He and Dorothy first established annuities with the Maryknoll Fathers, Maryknoll, NY and Saint Joseph Indian School, in Chamberlain, South Dakota. Since then he and Dorothy have established annuities with CARE; and most recently with Saint Patrick High School.

Dorothy and Frank are now members of Saint Patrick High School's Anam Cara Heritage Society. Frank encourages others to follow his lead with this advice, "The Charitable Gift Annuity provides the security of knowing that your income will always provide for your needs plus offering tax free incentives. Look for a good charity, and rather than making an outright gift or in addition to an outright gift consider a charitable gift annuity."
